[ACT] - Altadena Fire Watch Status - No Pending Evacuation Order

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for sounding an "all clear," but what is your source of
information? We are hearing from fire personnel and some law
enforcement sources that the danger ain't over yet. In fact, there is
a lot of concern about the change in wind speed and direction blowing
the fire back to unburned areas of Sierra Madre and Altadena.

Can you explain the continued evacuation announcements posted on the
CalFire InciWeb and L. A. County Fire Dept. Incident websites that
were updated just 18 minutes ago (in the case of InciWeb)? Or, what
Dan S. and other residents are being told?

Thanks much,
Lori

Pending Evacuation Order

Greetings to you all,

As we all know, fire is a dynamic, ever changing and unpredictable
event.

There is no current threat and no pending order to evacuate in place
for Altadena.

We still all need to stay vigilant and stay safe.

Continuing to build on the strengths and support many people have
found in their neighborhoods is a great idea.

For now, thankfully, there is no threat to Altadena.

Thanks to all of you for the remarkable patience and resilience
you've exhibited over the last week, even when we've all been faced
with sometimes incomplete, sometimes inaccurate, sometimes not up to
date information from all of the agencies working to protect us.

While conflicting information, inaccurate information, less than up
to date information or incomplete information frustrates all of us,
the reality is that the teams of people who worked so hard to tackle
the fire and to protect us have done an outstanding job and they have
succeeded at their primary mission.

For that, we're all very grateful.

Carolyn

Over here on the Eastside we're having our fun with this as well.
The Sheriff's Captain reportedly has confirmed that they are
preparing for the possibility of an East Altadena evacuation north of
Altadena Drive. While the Sheriff's Lieutenant has reportedly said
the exact opposite. While an active local (Town Councilmember?)
reminds us that the Sheriff's just do what they're told by fire -
suggesting that perhaps the LASD is not a reliable source??

Meanwhile, the dispatch at the Altadena Sheriff says that he expects
the fire to make its way to Eaton Canyon by Friday so we'd better get
prepared to replicate the 1993 evacuations - but he's not exactly
sure what zones that covered. Our neighbors say that in 1993 they
weren't evacuated, which was good, since they were need to put out
burning embers on their rooftops with firehoses! Then, of course,
the Star-News is reporting that 4 huge water-dropping planes spent
the first four days of the fire parked at an airport in Victorville
as someone didn't think they were needed until the fire topped 50,000
acres. Nice! So I guess we're going to pack just to be safe - and
try not to worry too much. Glad you guys are holding up so well
under the circumstances!

real alarms of the last few days.
