Thanks for your research, Mary!

Perhaps, in the spirit of Paul Ayer's comment about making sure the
easement for this public land is preserved in the files of the
public, you should simply provide a link to your online source where
anyone on this listserve can make a copy of the easement for
themselves? After all, it is a public document. Just a thought. I
would like to preserve a copy, by the way. It is amazing how old
maps, dated photos of existing terrain, and easements have become of
great value in all the various efforts to preserve historic sites,
trails and wild lands.

Also, this might be a good time to remind everyone about the
Hahamongna Watershed Park Advisory Committee tonight. See info. below.

Is there anything on the agenda tonight of particular concern that we
should know about? I always worry about something getting slipped by
in one of the many HWP-related meetings. I have public meeting
fatigue, but try to be at critical meetings lest a road through the
Annex to some new parking lot or structure, or a plan to bisect Rose
Bowl Riders, or some other doofy idea gets proposed and maybe
approved when the public is not looking. That's happened before, as
we know. Bad ideas like that paved road across the Annex to a
possible parking lot, clearly opposed by the majority of public
input, keep resurrecting whenever no one is looking. Every time we
think the road is dead, someone has to "study it" some more and bring
it up yet again. This wastes time, energy, and money better spent
elsewhere on park planning.

I appreciate info. from citizen watch dogs stubborn enough to attend
all the relevant HWP meetings!

Respectfully,
Lori

Friends,

Thank you so much to all of you who responded to my recent email
concerning the Hahamongna Annex open space easement. It's wonderful
to know there are so many people concerned with Hahamongna.

I'll try to summarize what I learned with the disclaimer that I am no
expert so please chime in if I get any of this wrong. First,
concerning the Assessor's Id Number and Title information that was
left off the cover pages, the consensus was that this was sloppy but
probably not that significant. The larger title search issue seems
to be that the property was never part of a tract or a subdivision
and searching by the legal description would be difficult -
especially for a non-expert.

Several respondents repeated what Paul Ayers said about the documents
he won through his legal efforts - the best way to keep the easement
from disappearing would be to pass out copies liberally. I now have
a copy online so if you would like a copy for your files, or, better
yet, one for your grandchildren's files, just let me know and I'll
email you one.

Several of you also let me know about the California Resource
Agency's central public registry of conservation and open space
easements. This registry covers easements held or required by the
state, or purchased with state grant funds beginning January 1,
2000. (See CA Public Resources Code 5096.520)

I'll let you know if I learn anything further.
Mary B.
